Oral Pathology with Dr. Fatima Robertson

Course Overview: 

This specialized lecture offers dental hygienists a comprehensive overview of oral pathology, focusing on the recognition, diagnosis, and management of various pathological conditions affecting the oral cavity. Through interactive discussions, case presentations, and visual aids, participants will develop the knowledge and skills necessary to identify oral abnormalities, educate patients, and collaborate effectively with other members of the dental team in promoting oral health.  

Objectives:  

-Recognize common oral pathological conditions, including oral infections, inflammatory disorders, precancerous lesions, and oral manifestations of systemic diseases, through examination of clinical presentations, diagnostic criteria, and risk factors. 

-Demonstrate proficiency in performing thorough oral examinations, including extraoral and intraoral assessments, utilizing appropriate diagnostic aids such as radiographs, intraoral cameras, and tissue biopsies, to facilitate early detection and diagnosis of oral pathology. 

-Implement evidence-based preventive strategies and patient education techniques to promote oral health and reduce the risk of oral diseases, including counseling on oral hygiene practices, tobacco cessation, and regular dental visits, empowering patients to take an active role in maintaining their oral well-being.
