Course Description
Eating disorders affect millions of people each year. Many go undiagnosed and untreated due to the shame and the secret nature of eating disorders. One misconception is that these disorders are a choice, and the patient can return to normal eating simply by will or force. Eating disorders are serious mental wellness issues requiring a multidisciplinary approach to treatment. This course will define and list different types of eating disorders and describe the physical, psychological, and oral manifestations. The dental professional is perfectly positioned to recognize and respond to patients who suffer from eating disorders. Learn oral health applications and how to approach the patient with a trauma-informed mindset.
Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, the dental professional should be able to:
